Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer – Temporary

About the role

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is seeking a temporary Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer to support thematic initiatives linked to the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the Abu Dhabi Declaration. The role is based in Abu Dhabi, reporting to the Programme Coordinator (Drug Control and Crime Prevention) and the UNODC Representative for the GCC Region.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in formulation, development, implementation, coordination and monitoring of assigned initiatives and technical cooperation activities related to the 15th UN Congress and the Abu Dhabi Declaration.
• Conduct monitoring and analysis of initiative progress, prepare concept notes, reports and work plans, and ensure compliance with UN financial rules.
• Provide back‑stopping and guidance on technical, substantive and administrative issues for the initiatives.
• Review, monitor and analyse social, economic and political developments at national, regional and global levels relevant to crime prevention and criminal justice.
• Draft mission summaries, support external consultants and government officials, and contribute to fundraising activities and donor engagements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in developing and implementing crime prevention or criminal justice programmes, preferably within an international or UN context.
• Ability to monitor, analyse and report on programme performance and to prepare high‑quality written documents.
• Familiarity with UN procedural and financial rules and with coordination among multiple stakeholders.
• Strong analytical skills to assess social, economic and political trends affecting the assigned thematic areas.
