Staff Nurse – Surgical Coordinator

About the role

The Staff Nurse Surgical Coordinator provides age‑appropriate patient care within the nursing scope of practice, supporting the organization’s mission, vision and values. This role coordinates individualized surgical care from first contact through discharge, ensuring safety, quality and patient advocacy.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in line with organisational policies and unit scope.
• Coordinate care across the patient journey, including discharge planning and referral processes.
• Identify and act on significant changes in patient condition, reporting to supervisors or physicians.
• Supervise and mentor practical nurses, midwives, junior staff and students; act as preceptor and in‑charge as required.
• Administer medications safely, monitor responses, report adverse drug reactions and medication errors.
• Respond to emergencies according to organisational protocols.
• Promote interdisciplinary teamwork, cultural sensitivity and health education.

• Willingness to participate in performance reviews, mentorship and organisational change.
