Data Engineer

About the role

Heidelberg Materials Trading is building a modern, Microsoft‑first cloud data platform to replace legacy reporting workflows. As a Data Engineer you will connect front‑office (Salesforce) and back‑office (JD Edwards ERP) systems to a unified analytics layer that powers critical Power BI dashboards for the business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead migration of reporting from QlikSense to Power BI, replicating existing logic, KPIs and workflows.
• Design, build and maintain scalable Azure SQL‑based data pipelines for analytics and operational decision‑making.
• Develop and optimise Power BI data models, reusable datasets and semantic layers following best‑practice modelling principles.
• Integrate data from JD Edwards, Salesforce and other business systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Reverse‑engineer manual Excel workflows into automated SQL or Python pipelines.
• Implement data validation, quality checks, monitoring and performance optimisation across the platform.
• Provide Power BI training, documentation and best‑practice materials for business users.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
• Support UAT cycles, phased go‑lives and iterative enhancements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on data engineering or data platform development experience (6 years for senior consideration).
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases and transformation logic.
• Hands‑on experience with Power BI (DAX, data modelling, row‑level security, performance optimisation).
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse or Microsoft Fabric.
• Familiarity integrating ERP or CRM systems such as JD Edwards, SAP or Salesforce.
