2nd Watchkeeping Electrical Engineer – Cutter Suction Dredger

About the role

The 2nd Watchkeeping Electrical Engineer supports the Chief Electrical Engineer on a Cutter Suction Dredger operating out of Abu Dhabi. The role ensures reliable power generation, distribution and control systems while maintaining safe, uninterrupted dredging operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance of all electrical systems on the dredger, including generators, switchboards and protection devices.
• Perform watch‑keeping duties, monitoring equipment to guarantee continuous operation.
• Troubleshoot and repair motors, drives, PLC systems, control panels and instrumentation.
• Maintain dredging‑specific equipment such as cutter drives, dredge pumps, winches and spud systems.
• Carry out routine inspections, preventive maintenance and testing of electrical assets.
• Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, marine regulations and permit‑to‑work systems.
• Support installation, modification and commissioning of electrical equipment during mobilisation or upgrades.
• Keep accurate maintenance records, logs and spare‑parts inventory.
• Coordinate with mechanical and dredging teams to minimise downtime.
• Participate in emergency response, overseeing alarms, safety systems and emergency power supply.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• STCW certification.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with marine or dredging electrical equipment.
