2nd W/K Engineer for Dredger

About the role

2nd W/K Engineer for a dredger, assisting the Chief Engineer in the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all engineering machinery onboard.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate main engines, generators, auxiliary systems and propulsion machinery.
• Maintain dredging equipment such as dredge pumps, cutter drive, hydraulic systems, winches and spud/ladder machinery.
• Carry out planned maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs in line with the vessel’s PMS.
• Assist with major overhauls, dry‑docking, repairs, surveys and commissioning activities.
• Maintain accurate engine‑room logs, maintenance records, checklists and defect reports.
• Supervise junior engineering crew during maintenance and operational tasks.
• Coordinate with the Dredge Master, Chief Engineer and deck team to ensure uninterrupted dredging operations.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, class, flag and company HSE requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience, preferably onboard a dredger.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of main propulsion, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors and boilers.
• Experience with dredge pumps, cutter drives, hydraulic systems, winches, spud and ladder machinery.
• Proficiency in monitoring machinery parameters and executing corrective actions.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance systems (PMS) and vessel safety regulations.
• Ability to maintain engine‑room logs, maintenance records and defect reports.
