Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are a UAE retail and distribution group operating over 25 brands and 30 branches. We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance Division in Abu Dhabi, handling daily bookkeeping, accounts payable and bank reconciliations.

Key responsibilities

• Post daily entries for bank and cash accounts and keep the books up‑to‑date.
• Reconcile bank accounts and payables ledgers weekly, investigate differences and resolve them.
• Prepare daily sales reports per brand and petty‑cash expense reports.
• Maintain depreciation schedules and support month‑end closing.
• Check supplier invoices and staff expense claims, ensure correct coding and approvals, and return incomplete submissions.
• Prepare cheques and cheque lists (including rent cheques), match them to approved bills and update registers.
• Initiate payments and transfers via online banking platforms, follow up approvals and bank queries.
• Maintain rent schedules for all branches and track pending payments.
• Prepare daily bank balance reports and monthly management reports (branch schedules, mall statements, AP ageing).
• Support external auditors and respond to bank requests.
• Submit daily timesheets and keep supporting documents filed and retrievable.

Required profile

• 1‑3 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably in retail, FMCG or a multi‑branch environment in the UAE.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce.
• Accurate, organised and disciplined about supporting documents and approvals.
• Good written and spoken English; Arabic is an advantage.
• Based in Abu Dhabi.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Excel (schedules, reconciliations, pivot tables).
• Hands‑on experience with a cloud SME accounting suite.
• Experience using an expense‑management tool.
• Familiarity with online banking platforms for payments and bank reconciliations.
