Assistant Chief Engineer

About the role

The Assistant Chief Engineer will deputise for the Director of Engineering and take full responsibility for the engineering department in their absence. This role ensures the smooth operation, maintenance and repair of all building, MEP and engineering systems across the 5‑star Sofitel Dubai The Palm resort.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BMS, lifts, generators, kitchen and laundry equipment, pools and beach infrastructure.
• Plan and allocate work across engineering shifts to guarantee 24/7 coverage and monitor the work‑order system to meet service standards.
• Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, F&B outlets, spa and plant rooms, and manage the Planned Preventive Maintenance programme.
• Maintain asset registers, O&M manuals and technical documentation, and ensure compliance with UAE regulations and fire‑life safety systems.
• Manage external contractors, AMCs and CAPEX projects, and support sustainability initiatives by monitoring energy, water and gas consumption.
• Lead, coach and develop the engineering team, handling scheduling, performance and training needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.
• 5–7 years of hotel or resort engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a senior role within a 5‑star luxury environment.
• Strong knowledge of Dubai Civil Defence, DEWA and Dubai Municipality regulations.
• Fluent in written and spoken English; additional languages are a plus.
