Careers Counsellor

About the role

The Careers Counsellor will support students at GEMS Education schools in Dubai to explore future pathways, make informed decisions about higher education and develop clear career goals. The role combines one‑to‑one guidance, group workshops and collaboration with parents and staff to foster a supportive environment for student success.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual career counselling, assist with university applications, subject selection and post‑graduation planning.
• Organise and deliver career talks, fairs and workshops to raise awareness of academic and vocational opportunities.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of local and international higher‑education systems and labour market trends.
• Communicate with parents regarding student progress and wellbeing while respecting confidentiality.
• Support and train school staff to recognise and address student mental‑health and wellbeing concerns.
• Ensure compliance with child‑protection policies and liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• Promote the counselling service to students, staff and parents and attend relevant CPD events.
• Collaborate with external agencies, stay current with best practices, and provide regular reports on the counselling programme.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Certification in School Counselling or Career Guidance is an advantage.
• Minimum three years’ experience in a school or educational setting.
• Strong understanding of child development, safeguarding and pastoral care.
• Excellent communication, empathy and interpersonal abilities.
