Consultant Ophthalmologist – Oculoplastic, Lacrimal & Orbital Surgery

About the role

The Consultant Ophthalmologist will lead the Oculoplastic, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery service at Moorfields Eye Hospital Center, Abu Dhabi. This senior position involves delivering expert diagnosis, medical management and surgical treatment for both cosmetic and non‑cosmetic peri‑ocular conditions within a multidisciplinary, patient‑centred environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital disorders.
• Perform surgical procedures including eyelid malposition corrections, blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, entropion/ectropion correction, and peri‑ocular lesion excision.
• Diagnose and treat lacrimal system diseases; conduct probing, intubation and dacryocystorhinostomy as required.
• Manage orbital disease such as inflammatory, infective, thyroid‑related and selected orbital masses.
• Handle peri‑ocular trauma and urgent oculoplastic presentations.
• Collaborate with ophthalmology subspecialties, radiology, ENT, maxillofacial, oncology and endocrinology teams.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in outpatient clinics, day‑case procedures and theatre sessions.
• Support service planning, pathway redesign and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Supervise, teach and mentor junior doctors, optometrists, nurses and allied health professionals.

Required profile

• Board‑certified ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery.
• Proven experience in both cosmetic and non‑cosmetic peri‑ocular procedures.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and contribute to clinical governance and service development.
• Strong commitment to teaching, supervision and high standards of patient safety and quality.

Required skills

• Oculoplastic surgical techniques (blepharoplasty, ptosis repair, entropion/ectropion correction).
• Lacrimal surgery including probing, intubation and dacryocystorhinostomy.
• Orbital disease management (inflammatory, infective, thyroid‑eye disease, orbital masses).
• Periocular trauma assessment and management.
• Comprehensive clinical documentation.
