Consultant Ophthalmologist – Vitreoretinal Surgery

About the role

The Consultant Ophthalmologist – Vitreoretinal Surgery will join Moorfields Eye Hospital Abu Dhabi to deliver specialist care for retinal, vitreous and macular disorders. The role involves diagnosing, medically managing and surgically treating a wide range of conditions, ensuring patient‑centred outcomes in both routine and emergency settings.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage vitreoretinal disorders in outpatient, emergency and operating theatre environments.
• Perform vitreoretinal surgeries such as pars plana vitrectomy, retinal detachment repair, membrane peeling, endolaser and tamponade with gas or silicone oil.
• Handle urgent retinal presentations to preserve vision.
• Interpret imaging investigations including OCT, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography and B‑scan ultrasonography.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including medical retina, cataract, uveitis, emergency eye care and optometry.

Required profile

• Board‑certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in vitreoretinal surgery.
• Proven experience in managing retinal detachment, diabetic vitreoretinal disease and other posterior segment pathologies.
• Commitment to high clinical quality, patient safety and continuous service development.
