Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist – Strabismus

About the role

We are seeking a Western‑trained Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist with a focus on strabismus to join a high‑volume private eye centre in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will deliver comprehensive clinical care and perform advanced strabismus surgeries for children, ensuring a superior patient and family experience.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage the full spectrum of paediatric ophthalmic conditions, including esotropia, exotropia, vertical deviations and amblyopia.
• Perform high‑precision strabismus surgeries (horizontal and vertical muscle procedures, re‑operations, adjustable sutures where applicable).
• Run paediatric clinics, orthoptic assessments and provide pre‑ and post‑operative care.
• Collaborate closely with orthoptists, optometrists, anaesthesiologists and multidisciplinary paediatric teams.
• Maintain accurate electronic medical records using systems such as Medcare, EPIC or Cerner.
• Uphold international safety, infection‑control and clinical‑governance standards.

Required profile

• Tier‑1 qualification (e.g., UK CCT/CESR, US Board Certification, Canadian RCPSC Fellowship, Irish CSCST, Australian FRANZCO, German Facharzt) with paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus focus.
• 3–5 years post‑consultant experience in paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, with a high surgical case volume.
• Eligibility for DHA, DOH or MOHAP consultant licence and completion of DataFlow PSV.
• Experience in private practice is an advantage.

Required skills

• Advanced strabismus surgical techniques (horizontal/vertical muscle surgery, adjustable sutures).
• Paediatric ophthalmic diagnostics and amblyopia management.
• Proficiency with EMR platforms (Medcare, EPIC, Cerner).
