Consultant Physician - Cardiology

About the role

The Consultant Physician – Cardiology leads and supervises delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based cardiac care at SSMC in Abu Dhabi. The role involves diagnosing, managing and treating patients across inpatient and outpatient settings while providing clinical leadership and training to junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise cardiac care delivery, ensuring adherence to best practice guidelines.
• Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff and assume responsibility for their patient care.
• Conduct ward rounds, assess in‑patients and out‑patients, and adjust treatment plans based on investigation results.
• Document clinical information accurately and timely in accordance with hospital procedures.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and coordinate with other specialties and support services.
• Manage on‑call duties on a rotational basis, covering evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Support division chief in scheduling, recruitment, and ensuring adequate medical coverage.
• Implement hospital policies, performance management processes and resource utilization standards.
• Obtain informed consent and prepare patients for procedures.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and families with appropriate consent.

Required profile

• Medical degree with board certification in Cardiology.
• Significant experience in a senior cardiology role, preferably within a tertiary care hospital.
• Demonstrated ability to lead clinical teams and provide education to junior staff.
• Strong knowledge of evidence‑based cardiac diagnostics and therapeutic interventions.
• Excellent clinical judgment, decision‑making and documentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary environments.
• Commitment to adhering to hospital policies, performance management and quality improvement initiatives.
