Cost Accountant – Manufacturing

About the role

The Cost Accountant will act as the embedded Factory Controller for a cable manufacturing operation, translating production activity into financial insight. This role safeguards product costing accuracy across all plants, drives variance analysis, and partners with operations on consumption control, maintenance cost, and capital expenditure evaluation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and validate multi-level Bills of Materials (BOM) for the full cable production process, ensuring accurate metal content, compounds, armor, fillers and packaging.
• Partner with Technical and Manufacturing teams to improve BOM accuracy and embed standard scrap, wastage and process-loss factors.
• Drive periodic and annual standard cost rolls, aligning metal standards with LME pricing and updating conversion rates.
• Validate new-product costings and assess cost impacts of engineering change notes and BOM revisions.
• Evaluate and monitor routing master data, including standard machine, setup, labour times and machine-hour rates.
• Quantify variance between standard routing time and actual production time, categorising machine run, setup, idle, re-work, maintenance and downtime.
• Reconcile actual material consumption against standard BOM consumption, focusing on high-value metals and scrap recovery.
• Investigate abnormal consumption, over-issues or negative inventories and drive corrective actions with Stores and Production.
