Forward Deployed Software Engineer

About the role

Base Careers is seeking a Forward Deployed Software Engineer to work with partner militaries and defense organisations. You will design, build and field software solutions that integrate with Harmattan AI’s autonomous defence platforms, operating directly on‑site with end‑users.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop end‑to‑end software applications from architecture through deployment for partner operational problems.
• Translate loosely defined requirements from military partners into production‑ready code on tight timelines.
• Build and validate interfaces and connectors between Harmattan AI platforms and external systems, ensuring data flows correctly in the field.
• Deploy solutions on‑site, gather operator feedback, and iterate quickly based on real‑world performance.
• Debug live operational issues, document lessons learned, and integrate reusable capabilities into the core product.
• Establish strong relationships with client technical teams and senior stakeholders to understand and solve their problems.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of experience delivering production software in Python and a lower‑level language such as C++, Rust or Go.
• Proven ability to take ambiguous problems through full system design, implementation, testing and field deployment on Linux.
• Excellent communication skills in English and comfort working with client technical teams and senior leadership.
• Willingness to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally, to partner sites.
