General Technician (HVAC)

About the role

The General Technician (HVAC) is responsible for maintaining safe and comfortable climate conditions across guest rooms, public areas and back‑of‑house spaces in a busy hotel environment. Reporting to the Duty Engineer, the role requires proactive troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and swift response to guest and operational requests.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and corrective maintenance on HVAC equipment including FCUs, AHUs, FAHUs, ventilation and exhaust fans, chilled‑water systems, pumps, valves and filters.
• Diagnose and resolve guest room temperature complaints, water leaks, abnormal noises, airflow issues and control problems.
• Read and interpret HVAC schematics, control drawings and equipment manuals to guide fault finding.
• Support basic Building Management System (BMS) operation, thermostat and actuator troubleshooting.
• Carry out emergency breakdown response, ensure area safety and coordinate escalation to specialist contractors when needed.
• Undertake minor non‑HVAC repairs such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and silicone/grouting tasks.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of practical HVAC maintenance experience, preferably in hotel engineering or a large commercial facility.
• Fluent spoken and written English with strong communication skills for interacting with guests and hotel staff.
• Proactive problem‑solver who can work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
• Service‑oriented, reliable and respectful in guest‑facing areas.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with HVAC systems (FCU, AHU, FAHU) and chilled‑water plant.
• Knowledge of ventilation fans, pumps, valves, filters, thermostats and actuators.
• Basic operation and troubleshooting of Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Ability to read and interpret HVAC drawings, schematics and control diagrams.
• Competence in preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
