Graduate Trainee – Internal Shariah Control

About the role

The Internal Shariah Control Officer role supports the Head of Internal Shari’ah Control in delivering Shariah governance across Emirates NBD Group entities and subsidiaries offering Islamic products (excluding Emirates Islamic Bank). The position ensures that agreements, products and communications comply with the Sharia Governance Framework, ISSC resolutions, Higher Shariah Authority guidelines and AAOIFI standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review agreements, contracts, product documentation, marketing communications and customer queries for Shariah compliance.
• Monitor business activities and assess adherence to Islamic Shariah, ISSC resolutions and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare Shariah compliance updates, quarterly reports, manuals, SOPs and regulatory communications under guidance.
• Develop and deliver basic and customized Shariah training materials for Emirates NBD staff.
• Assist the ISSC secretariat with meeting agendas, archiving fatwas and resolutions, logistics and follow‑up on implementation of Shariah resolutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Shariah or Law (essential); Master’s degree in Islamic Banking is desirable.
• Certified Sharia Advisor and Auditor qualification by AAOIFI is a plus.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in a Shariah department or consultancy.
• Good knowledge of Islamic banking operations and Shariah principles.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, negotiation and conflict‑management abilities.

• Ability to analyse contracts and product documentation for compliance.
