Grinder Operator

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Grinder Operator to join our services team in Abu Dhabi. The role involves preparing and finishing metal components for welding and fabrication on oil‑and‑gas and construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Perform grinding, cutting, beveling and surface preparation of pipes, plates, structural steel, ducts and metal supports.
• Remove weld spatter, rust, paint, sharp edges and other surface defects.
• Prepare edges for welding and ensure required dimensions, finish and bevel angles.
• Operate angle grinders, cutting machines, wire brushes and other power tools safely.
• Select appropriate grinding discs or cutting wheels for each material.
• Support welders, pipe fitters, fabricators and MEP technicians on site.
• Inspect equipment, guards and discs before use and report any damage.
• Apply fire blankets, control sparks and maintain housekeeping to protect personnel and equipment.

Required profile

• Minimum secondary‑school education or relevant trade certification.
• 2–3 years of experience as a grinder on oil‑and‑gas, piping, structural, fabrication or MEP projects.
• Preferable experience on ADNOC or similar oil‑and‑gas projects.
• May require third‑party trade certification depending on client requirements.

Required skills

• Proficient operation of angle grinders and cutting machines.
• Use of wire brushes and selection of appropriate grinding discs or cutting wheels.
• Knowledge of grinding carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel and other approved materials.
• Ability to follow method statements, risk assessments, permit‑to‑work procedures and HSE requirements.
• Proper use of PPE including face shield, safety goggles, gloves, hearing and respiratory protection.
