Hospital Attender – Patient Support & Transport

About the role

The Attender provides essential non‑clinical support to patients and staff within the hospital, ensuring comfort, safety and smooth operation of daily services.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with non‑clinical needs and ensure their comfort.
• Prepare skin for pre‑operative patients when required.
• Provide portering services, including transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
• Collect and return medical record files across departments.
• Assist with patient meal times and ensure bedside supplies are stocked.
• Make beds, change linen daily and maintain adequate linen inventory.
• Clean non‑critical equipment, dust surfaces and follow infection‑control protocols when moving instruments.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory and escort patients, families or visitors to various hospital areas.
• Support administrative tasks such as photocopying and managing ward consumables.
• Prepare and distribute daily coffee and dates for public areas.
• Ensure inpatient rooms are ready for new admissions and provide basic amenities.
• Assist patients with belongings during discharge and escort them to vehicles.
• Participate in mandatory trainings, orientation of new staff and annual competency assessments.

Required profile

• Physical stamina to handle patient transport and equipment handling.
• Ability to follow strict infection‑control and safety procedures.
• Good communication skills for interacting with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
• Reliability in attending mandatory trainings and supporting colleagues when needed.
• Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness and stock levels.
