HPC System Engineer

About the role

EDGE is looking for a highly skilled HPC Systems Engineer to manage, optimise, and support its high‑performance computing environment used for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) workloads. The role covers the full lifecycle of HPC operations, from infrastructure and scheduler management to user support and capacity planning.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and administer compute, login and heterogeneous nodes, NAS storage servers and InfiniBand interconnects.
• Monitor hardware health, perform backups, and ensure high availability of the HPC environment.
• Configure and tune job schedulers (Slurm, PBS, LSF, Grid Engine) and implement fair‑share, QoS and pre‑emption policies.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, storage quotas and enforce security controls such as SSH, MFA and regular patching.
• Install, update and licence engineering solvers (e.g., ANSYS) and provide guidance on CPU/GPU architecture selection for simulations.

Required profile

• Strong Linux administration experience.
• Deep knowledge of HPC schedulers and high‑speed interconnects.
• Hands‑on familiarity with CFD and FEA engineering simulation tools.
• Experience with HPC‑related databases, backup strategies and compliance requirements.
