HPC System Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled HPC Systems Engineer to manage, optimise and support our high‑performance computing environment that runs Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) workloads. The role covers the full lifecycle of HPC operations – from infrastructure and scheduler management to user support, performance optimisation and capacity planning.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and administer compute, login and heterogeneous nodes, NAS storage servers and high‑speed InfiniBand interconnects.
• Monitor hardware health (CPU temperatures, memory errors, disk failures) and ensure high availability and minimal downtime.
• Configure, tune and maintain job schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, LSF or Grid Engine, including fair‑share policies, QoS limits and pre‑emption rules.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, storage quotas and enforce secure SSH access with MFA.
• Apply OS patches, security updates and ensure compliance with IT governance and audit requirements.
• Install, update and licence engineering solvers (ANSYS, Siemens, NASTRAN) and maintain environment modules (Lmod, Environment Modules).
• Optimise compilers, MPI libraries, math libraries and GPU drivers for engineering simulations.
• Plan capacity, monitor node utilisation, queue wait times and job failures to drive performance improvements.

Required profile

• Strong Linux system administration experience.
• Deep knowledge of HPC schedulers and resource‑management concepts.
• Hands‑on familiarity with engineering simulation tools such as CFD and FEA.
• Experience with high‑speed interconnects (InfiniBand) and storage systems.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑moving, multicultural environment.
