HPC System Engineer

About the role

EDGE Group is looking for a highly skilled HPC System Engineer to manage and optimise its high‑performance computing environment that supports Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) workloads. The role covers the full lifecycle of the cluster, from infrastructure provisioning to user support and capacity planning.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain compute, login and heterogeneous nodes, NAS storage servers and InfiniBand interconnects, monitoring hardware health and ensuring high availability.
• Configure and tune job schedulers such as Slurm, PBS, LSF or Grid Engine, implementing fair‑share policies, QoS limits and node reservations for large CFD/FEA jobs.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, storage quotas and enforce security controls including SSH hardening and MFA.
• Install, licence and update engineering solvers (ANSYS, Siemens, NASTRAN) and maintain environment modules, compilers, MPI and GPU drivers.
• Monitor cluster utilisation, identify I/O or memory bottlenecks, perform performance tuning and benchmark engineering workloads.
• Plan capacity growth, evaluate new hardware (GPU, faster interconnects) and contribute to the long‑term HPC roadmap.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field.
• 3–7 years of experience administering Linux‑based HPC clusters.
• Strong knowledge of HPC schedulers (Slurm, PBS, LSF) and distributed computing (MPI, OpenMP).
• Familiarity with CFD/FEA solvers and engineering simulation workflows.
• Proficiency in Bash and Python scripting.
