Individual Learning Support Assistant (ILSA)

About the role

The Individual Learning Support Assistant (ILSA) works closely with teachers to provide targeted assistance to students who need additional support. The role involves adapting learning activities, reinforcing vocabulary, and ensuring students stay focused and engaged throughout lessons.

Key responsibilities

• Advocate for support and collaborate with the student’s teacher.
• Arrange optimal seating and grouping for the student.
• Break down learning into smaller, manageable steps.
• Support vocabulary development and scaffold learning.
• Check understanding of tasks, concepts, and skills.
• Prompt and sustain concentration on tasks.
• Incorporate IEP targets and reinforce strategies from the support team.
• Provide positive communication and engagement with students.
• Address misconceptions and give constructive feedback.
• Maintain records of support, progress, and barriers.
• Attend ILSA group meetings and contribute to continuous improvement.
• Support the student during out‑of‑classroom activities such as PE and swimming when required.

Required profile

• Minimum A‑Level or equivalent qualification (UAE Embassy and MOFA attested).
• Experience or aptitude for working with students; teaching or teaching‑assistant experience preferred.
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Enthusiasm for working with students and ability to work as part of a team.
• Initiative and proactive attitude.
