About the role
Wood is seeking a UAE national Instrument Engineer to support instrumentation and control system design for oil and gas facilities in Sharjah. The role offers exposure to both graduate‑level tasks and senior engineering responsibilities across the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development and documentation of instrumentation and control systems, including datasheets, specifications, instrument index, I/O lists and cause‑and‑effect charts.
- Review and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, hook‑up drawings and control system architecture for both new and existing projects.
- Support FAT, SAT and commissioning activities, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, electrical, civil, piping).
- Perform detailed engineering, vendor package evaluation and technical bid reviews for DCS, PLC, ESD, SCADA and fire‑and‑gas systems.
- Participate in HAZOP, SIL, design and constructability reviews, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Troubleshoot instrumentation and control issues during execution and operation, ensuring compliance with client requirements and international standards.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
- 0‑3 years of internship/project experience in oil & gas or EPC environments (for junior level) or 4‑10 years of relevant experience in instrumentation & control engineering for oil & gas, petrochemical, LNG, refinery, offshore or power projects (for senior level).
- Experience with FEED, detailed design, brownfield/greenfield, EPC or operations is highly preferred.
Required skills
- Instrumentation design and loop‑diagram development.
- Control system architecture for DCS, PLC, SCADA, ESD and fire‑and‑gas systems.
- Preparation of instrument datasheets, specifications, cable schedules and hook‑up drawings.
- Knowledge of IEC, ISA, API, IEEE, NFPA, SIL and functional safety standards.
- FAT/SAT execution, commissioning and start‑up activities.
- HAZOP, SIL analysis and technical bid evaluation.
