About the role
Worley is seeking a Lead Material Engineer to drive materials engineering activities across FEED, EPC and detailed engineering phases for oil & gas projects in Abu Dhabi. The role involves developing material selection strategies, ensuring compliance with ADNOC and international standards, and leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe and cost-effective solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage all materials engineering tasks during FEED, EPC and detailed design.
- Develop and implement material selection strategies for process facilities, pipelines, piping systems, static equipment and offshore structures.
- Prepare, review and approve material selection reports, corrosion studies, material specifications, piping class specifications and technical requisitions.
- Perform corrosion assessments considering process conditions, operating environments and design life.
- Ensure compliance with ADNOC standards and international codes such as NACE, ASME, ASTM, API and ISO.
- Provide technical expertise in corrosion control, coating systems, cathodic protection, metallurgy, welding requirements and non-metallic materials.
- Review vendor documentation, technical bids and material compliance documents.
- Support HAZOP, HAZID, constructability reviews, value engineering studies and design optimisation.
- Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil, Inspection and Procurement disciplines.
- Participate in technical meetings with clients, vendors, contractors and stakeholders to resolve material-related issues.
- Monitor engineering deliverables to meet project schedules, quality and HSE requirements.
- Lead, mentor and supervise a team of specialists, senior engineers and engineers.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in the oil & gas or petrochemical industry.
- At least 5 years of experience in the GCC region (preferred).
- Proven experience in materials selection, corrosion assessment and compliance with ADNOC and international standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
