Lead Primary Engineer – Substation Design

About the role

The Lead Primary Engineer will drive the design of substation projects for Larsen & Toubro in Sharjah. Reporting to the Design Lead (Primary), you will be responsible for preparing, reviewing and executing primary engineering activities, ensuring compliance with national and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve drawings produced by draftsmen, ensuring technical accuracy.
• Coordinate with site execution and cluster teams to resolve design queries.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, MEP and instrumentation departments for interdisciplinary checks.
• Ensure all designs meet specification requirements and quality system standards.
• Evaluate vendor offers, prepare pre‑tender engineering estimates and BOM calculations.
• Perform design calculations for busbars, UPS, DG, LT transformers, earthing conductors, short‑circuit forces and sag tension.
• Develop and validate BIM 3D models for substations.
• Prepare layout designs, single‑line diagrams, earthing, cable routing, lighting, lightning protection and cable‑tray routing.

Required profile

• B.E. / B.Tech. in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• 3–7 years of experience in primary engineering design for substations or power distribution projects.
• Strong knowledge of national and international electrical codes and standards.
• Proven ability to work independently and lead design activities without direct reportees.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with multidisciplinary teams.
