Locum Assistant Medical Coder

About the role

The Locum Assistant Medical Coder supports the Revenue Cycle Management Department by accurately assigning and verifying diagnosis and procedure codes for all hospital claims, including self‑pay. The role abstracts clinical data from inpatient, day‑surgery and outpatient encounters and ensures compliance with Dubai Health Authority e‑claims guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Assign ICD‑9‑CM/ICD‑10 diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS procedure codes at the pre‑authorization level.
• Create abstracts of demographics, statistical and medical information and enter them into the coding system.
• Review electronic statements, operative reports and pharmacy items to ensure correct coding and request physician clarification when needed.
• Apply coding guidelines, including CEED edits, and add additional ICD codes as required.
• Maintain daily productivity, close delegated insurance batches and ensure confidentiality of patient data.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in any field (medical background preferred).
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification.
• 0–1 year experience with ICD‑9‑CM or ICD‑10 coding in a claims‑handling environment.
• Fluent written and spoken English; Arabic knowledge is a plus.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
• Knowledge of ICD‑9‑CM, ICD‑10, CPT and HCPCS coding systems.
