Manager – MEP & Sustainability Design

About the role

The Manager – MEP & Sustainability Design will coordinate the delivery of education projects in a multi‑stakeholder environment, ensuring that school facilities incorporate best‑practice MEP design and sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide project leadership during the design stage in a collaborative, partnership‑based manner.
• Provide full design support to Project Managers during the construction phase.
• Manage liaison and relationships with all key stakeholders (client, consultants, authorities, construction site team, subcontractor designers).
• Ensure management of the MEP design process in accordance with company policies, procedures and design plans.
• Select and manage consultants, defining scope, inputs and deliverables.
• Achieve cost objectives with timely reporting and forecasting.
• Manage MEP design inputs, coordination and deliverables to meet time, cost and quality targets.
• Arrange full construction (MEP installation & planning) support during the design phase to maximise constructability.
• Secure progressive client sign‑off at appropriate milestone stages.
• Obtain progressive approvals from relevant authorities, maintaining close liaison with consultants.
• Ensure MEP design addresses workplace health & safety, maintenance, sustainability, environmental and life‑cycle costing efficiencies.
• Document and monitor all project risks and implement management strategies.
• Monitor and control changes to the contract design brief.
• Oversee an MEP design quality plan, linking designers' quality plans with regular review and audit.
• Maintain a traceable record of all key design decisions, justifications and approvals.
• Identify and promptly initiate corrective actions to keep the project on track.
