Materials Engineer

About the role

The Materials Engineer will ensure that all materials used in municipal infrastructure, transportation, roadworks, storm‑water networks and related construction projects meet approved specifications, quality standards and regulatory requirements. The role supports the full project lifecycle, from planning and testing to inspection, evaluation and approval, guaranteeing durability, safety, sustainability and cost‑effectiveness.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve material submittals for roads, pavements, utilities and related infrastructure.
• Conduct inspections of materials during procurement, delivery, installation and implementation.
• Verify contractors' quality control and quality assurance processes.
• Review laboratory test reports for soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, pipes and geotextiles.
• Coordinate testing programmes, field sampling and validation of methodologies.
• Provide technical advice on material selection, performance and lifecycle considerations.
• Investigate material failures, conduct root‑cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Collaborate with consultants, contractors, suppliers and testing laboratories to resolve material‑related issues.
• Maintain comprehensive records of approvals, inspections, test results and compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with municipal or large‑scale construction projects.
• Strong knowledge of local regulations, international codes and industry standards.
• Ability to analyse technical data and produce clear engineering reports.
