Medical Coder (Outpatient & Inpatient)

About the role

The Medical Coder will be responsible for abstracting and assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for both inpatient and outpatient records. Working under general supervision, the role supports the billing and audit teams and assists clinical staff with documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Code outpatient claims using E&M, CPT, ICD and USCLS codes.
• Code inpatient claims to determine appropriate DRG and severity levels.
• Code day cases, observations, and all approval requests with relevant ICD, CPT, HCPCS and service codes.
• Re‑evaluate cases at resubmission, adjusting codes based on updated documentation.
• Provide coding guidance to doctors, nurses and the insurance billing team.
• Prepare the facility for coding audits and maintain statistical coding data for management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably with a medical background.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure coding accuracy and revenue optimization.
