Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer

About the role

The Medium Voltage Electrical Engineer will support WCS’s growth in electrical solutions for ports and terminals, focusing on 1 kV‑33 kV systems. The role covers concept development, feasibility studies, design review, supplier coordination, site assessments, commissioning support and safety training for terminal substations, MV distribution and EV charging infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and support medium‑voltage solution capability for ports and terminals (1 kV‑25 kV range).
• Prepare and review concepts, feasibility studies, technical specifications and cost inputs for substations, MV/LV distribution, switchgear, transformers, RMUs and protection systems.
• Conduct site surveys, load assessments and preliminary power‑demand studies to define modernization or electrification options.
• Review supplier and subcontractor offers for MV equipment and oversee design reviews, risk assessments, FAT/SAT activities and commissioning planning.
• Deliver onsite MV electrical safety, arc‑flash awareness and certification training for technicians, supervisors and engineers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent technical diploma with strong MV experience).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in medium‑voltage electrical systems (1 kV‑25 kV), preferably in utilities, industrial plants or infrastructure projects.
• Relevant MV safety certifications (e.g., NFPA 70E, IEC 50110, OSHA) and authorisation to work on MV equipment.
• Proven ability to deliver technical training and safety briefings to field personnel.

Required skills

• Design and analysis of MV distribution, substations, switchgear, transformers and protection relays.
• Preparation and review of single‑line diagrams, cable sizing, load flow, short‑circuit calculations and earthing/bonding concepts.
• Arc‑flash and electrical‑safety risk assessment, LOTO, permit‑to‑work and safe isolation procedures.
• Testing and commissioning techniques including insulation resistance, VLF/hi‑pot, transformer checks and relay testing.
