Metallurgist – FAMTL (Full‑Time)

About the role

AL TARIQ, the leading provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services for the UAE Armed Forces, is seeking a Metallurgist to lead the FAMTL laboratory. The role involves supervising lab analysts and acting as the metallurgical engineering expert to ensure reliability and safety of land platforms and weapon systems.

Key responsibilities

• Directly supervise all assigned Lab Analysts within the FAMTL while serving as the metallurgical engineering expert.
• Review methodologies used in developing reliability predictions and test procedures to assess effectiveness.
• Monitor state‑of‑the‑art technology in reliability, maintainability and testing.
• Analyze test data to isolate problems in component design, material design, and material characteristics.
• Evaluate material design, manufacturing processes and usage to determine root causes of failures and recommend design or processing changes.
• Provide technical assistance to prototyping and Fabrication Workshop teams on issues involving chemical composition, forging and heat treatment.
• Perform mechanical testing and assess metallurgical aspects related to vehicle and weapons system malfunctions.
• Advise design, modelling and simulation teams on design changes affecting product quality and reliability.
• Review weapon system specifications and recommend reliability, maintainability and test specifications for procurement contracts.
• Assist contracting officials in interpreting specifications and drawings related to material requirements.
• Consult with quality assurance personnel on criticality of cracks, inclusions, porosity and other defects.
• Develop and enforce acceptance standards to prevent introduction of substandard materials.
• Monitor projects developing non‑destructive testing methods and ensure latest technologies are applied.
