NLP Engineer

About the role

NorthBay Solutions is seeking an experienced NLP Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of production‑grade Natural Language Processing and Generative AI solutions. You will own end‑to‑end AI initiatives, shape technical architecture, and mentor the engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable NLP and LLM‑powered applications, including Retrieval‑Augmented Generation pipelines, embeddings, and vector search.
• Fine‑tune, evaluate, and optimise transformer‑based models for production use.
• Build robust data, training, inference, and model‑evaluation pipelines.
• Improve model quality, latency, scalability, reliability, and cost.
• Establish best practices for experimentation, deployment, monitoring, and observability of AI systems.
• Translate complex business requirements into effective AI/ML solutions.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, software engineers, product teams, and stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across NLP/Generative AI projects.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience in NLP, Machine Learning, or Generative AI.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Hands‑on experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, or equivalent frameworks.
• Proven track record taking AI/ML solutions from experimentation to production.
• Solid software‑engineering and system‑design abilities, including APIs, data pipelines, and scalable architectures.
