Port Engineer – Technical Superintendent (Electronics & Systems)

About the role

Black & Grey HR is looking for a Port Engineer – Technical Superintendent (Electronics & Systems) to join the marine operations team in Abu Dhabi. The role is permanent, office‑based with regular vessel and yard attendance, responsible for the technical ownership and certification of navigation, communication, automation and electronic control systems across a mixed fleet and unmanned surface vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain certification and operability of navigation, communication and automation systems, ensuring zero critical failures and 100 % certification currency.
• Diagnose and resolve electronic faults, manage spares, firmware and version control to meet MTTR and compliance targets.
• Plan and lead upgrades and retrofits of ECDIS, DP/USV control and related systems, ensuring cyber readiness and on‑time delivery.
• Support USV deployments, including communication links, sensors and control systems to meet mission success and uptime targets.
• Coordinate with Class Societies, Flag State authorities and OEMs for system approvals, surveys and warranty management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Automation, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7–10 years of marine electronics experience with superintendent‑level exposure.
• Strong knowledge of IMO SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS and STCW regulations.
• Experience working with OEMs, system integrators, Class Societies and Flag State authorities.

Required skills

• ECDIS and GMDSS operation and certification.
• DP/USV control systems.
• PMS/CMMS, firmware and configuration management.
• Navigation, communication and automation system diagnostics.
