Principal Engineer – Bridges & Tunnels

About the role

WSP is looking for a Principal Engineer to lead bridge and tunnel design projects across Abu Dhabi. This senior position requires a seasoned structural engineer with a strong track record of delivering complex infrastructure in the Emirates.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for bridge and tunnel design programmes.
• Develop concept, preliminary and detailed designs in line with UAE and Abu Dhabi standards.
• Act as Engineer of Record or Design Lead, ensuring technical quality and integrity.
• Review and approve calculations, drawings, reports and specifications.
• Interface with Abu Dhabi authorities and key clients at senior technical and commercial meetings.
• Lead authority submissions, negotiations and responses to review comments.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the bridges and structures team.
• Support project managers with resourcing, planning, risk management and delivery strategies.
• Contribute to business development, bids and client engagement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 13+ years of experience in bridge and tunnel design, preferably within a leading consultancy.
• Extensive experience delivering Abu Dhabi‑based projects and working with local authorities.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams on large, complex projects.
