Principal Engineer - Software (HMI)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Principal Software Engineer specializing in Human-Machine Interface (HMI) to join our defence communications and command-and-control (C2) team in Abu Dhabi. You will work on a complex, mission-critical system, collaborating with systems engineers, architects, integration and test teams to deliver high-quality user-focused software.

Key responsibilities

• Produce UI product and system requirement specifications based on end-user input and operational analysis.
• Develop design concepts and implementation specifications with a strong emphasis on usability.
• Create, evaluate, and refine prototypes, operational scenarios, and process maps, focusing on interaction, physical manipulation, and task analysis.
• Contribute to software architecture, detailed design, and integration activities across distributed communication systems.
• Maintain software design artefacts and models, and actively participate in technical reviews and design discussions.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of software engineering experience, preferably in defence or critical communications.
• Strong fundamentals in software design, testing, and disciplined engineering practices.
• Proven experience developing distributed or communications-based applications using Java.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
