Principal Engineer – Water Infrastructure

About the role

WSP is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer – Water to lead the design and delivery of large‑scale water, hydrology and wet utilities projects in Abu Dhabi. This senior technical position sits within the Transport & Infrastructure business unit and focuses on sustainable, innovative water infrastructure solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee end‑to‑end design and delivery of major water infrastructure projects, including potable water, stormwater drainage, foul sewerage, TSE/irrigation networks and hydrological systems.
• Provide technical leadership in hydrology, hydraulic modelling and wet utilities design, ensuring compliance with Abu Dhabi authority standards and international best practice.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams and coordinate civil, structural, environmental, transport and other engineering disciplines.
• Produce high‑quality technical outputs such as design reports, modelling results, specifications, drawings, tender documents and engineering studies.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders, present design solutions and act as subject‑matter expert.
• Lead authority submissions and interface with Abu Dhabi agencies (ADM, ADQCC, AD Ports, ADSSC/ADDCD) to secure approvals.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers and support project managers in planning, budgeting and risk management.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience (≈120 months) in water infrastructure design and delivery.
• Proven experience on large‑scale projects in Abu Dhabi with knowledge of local authority requirements and approval processes.
• Strong background in coordinating multidisciplinary teams on complex infrastructure programmes.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with clients and authorities.
