Principal HSSE Advisor – Abu Dhabi

About the role

Petrofac, a leading international service provider to the energy industry, is seeking a Principal Advisor – HSSE to lead health, safety, security and environment activities for its projects in Abu Dhabi. The role involves overseeing day‑to‑day HSE operations, developing documentation and driving awareness programmes within a hybrid working environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily HSE activities and ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Develop and maintain HSE management system documentation for the project.
• Initiate and support HSE awareness programmes and campaigns.
• Apply hazard identification and risk assessment processes, implementing ALARP controls.
• Participate in reviews of hazard control effectiveness and lessons‑learned implementation.
• Provide input to the HSE component of the action tracking system and communicate requirements to personnel.
• Assist in incident and near‑miss investigations and support compliance audits, inspections and performance meetings.
• Contribute to HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON, ENVID and QRA workshops.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (4 years) or Diploma (3 years) from an accredited institution.
• NEBOSH IGC or equivalent, and lead/internal auditor certification for ISO 45001/ISO 14001.
• 8‑10 years of HSE experience in construction, fabrication, installation or commissioning within oil & gas or petrochemical projects.
• Strong understanding of HSE issues, practices and behavioural aspects in the EPC business.

Required skills

• Incident investigation techniques.
• Hazard identification and risk assessment (HAZID, HAZOP, HAZCON, ENVID, QRA).
• Development and implementation of HSE plans, welfare plans, emergency response procedures and site‑specific work instructions.
• Safe System of Work implementation (PTW, WMS, risk assessments).
• H2S control measures.
• Conducting HSE audits and inspections.
