School Librarian

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated School Librarian to manage and develop the library services at Cambridge International School – Dubai. The role involves supporting students and staff in accessing resources, promoting reading culture, and maintaining an organized, welcoming library environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist students in selecting books appropriate to their reading level and interests, and support staff with research resources.
• Manage borrowing procedures, maintain records, and follow up on overdue items.
• Develop age‑appropriate reading lists and conduct literacy programmes.
• Teach students library navigation, including the Dewey Decimal classification system.
• Collaborate with Heads of Department to plan annual book orders and renew periodical subscriptions.
• Catalogue new acquisitions using the Dewey Decimal system and maintain the library catalogue.
• Repair, withdraw, and manage audiovisual resources.
• Oversee the maintenance, lighting, signage and overall ambience of the library.
• Supervise library support staff and coordinate volunteer assistance.
• Maintain examination and career‑related material and ensure compliance with GEMS policies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, Education or a related field.
• Proven experience as a librarian, preferably in a school or educational setting in the UAE.
• Strong knowledge of library operations, cataloguing and classification systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a student‑focused attitude.
• Fluency in English; Arabic is an advantage.
