Senior Counsel – Payments & Technology

About the role

Mastercard is looking for an experienced senior lawyer to provide end‑to‑end strategic legal support for the Core Payments business across Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EEMEA). The role partners directly with regional leadership, shaping product strategy, commercialization and pricing initiatives while managing legal and reputational risk.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a trusted strategic advisor to EEMEA Core Payments leadership on business priorities, product strategy and material legal risks.
• Provide legal oversight throughout the product lifecycle—from concept and design to market launch, scaling, enhancement and discontinuation.
• Lead legal review of region‑wide pricing and interchange initiatives, assessing fee structures, bundling, opt‑in/opt‑out mechanisms and customer impact.
• Advise on regulatory dimensions of pricing proposals and deliver balanced recommendations for governance and approval processes.
• Shape regional legal positions and guardrails for novel Core Payments initiatives, ensuring consistency while respecting market‑specific requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with extensive experience in payments, technology and commercial transactions.
• Strong executive presence and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Demonstrated commercial judgment and ability to translate complex legal risks into practical guidance.
• Experience working across multiple jurisdictions in EEMEA or similar regions.
