Senior IT Emergency Coordinator

About the role

The IT Emergency Coordinator (IT EC) supports a coordinated response to crises by collaborating with stakeholders and cluster members to ensure urgent communication needs of humanitarian responders are met while facilitating recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead Emergency Response Technology Projects in field operations, supporting the humanitarian community and partners.
• Manage field projects focusing on Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), Security Telecommunication Services (TESS) and Service Agreements.
• Represent the Technology Division towards Country Management and escalate issues when required.
• Identify, assess and prioritize key technology needs for assistance to affected communities.
• Write Concept of Operations (CONOPS), staffing plans, budgets, implementation plans and closure reports.
• Negotiate budgets with emergency operations management.
• Provide leadership to IT EPR, organize and chair IT and ETC meetings.
• Represent WFP and ETC at inter‑cluster and coordination meetings and advocate for funding.
• Ensure emergency technology preparedness through contingency planning.
• Coordinate preparation and participation in Flash Appeals, SRPs and funding proposals.
• Identify and mobilize resources (human, financial, assets) for services.
• Lead or support creation of local capacity for operational sustainability.
• Liaise with governments on telecommunication issues.
• Support Digital Assistance interventions.
• Supervise national personnel, TDY, Stand‑by Partners, FITTEST and Partners.

Required profile

• University degree in Technology, Business Management or related field.
• Minimum eight years of relevant experience, including field work in emergency contexts.
• Ability to operate in hard, extreme living conditions and travel to emergencies within 24 hours.
• Strong independent initiative, regular follow‑ups and effective communication skills.
• Collaborative team player with strong business partnering and cognitive capacity.
