Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Parsons is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and planning of sewage treatment plants, pump and lift stations, and associated mechanical systems in Abu Dhabi. The role involves delivering detailed engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure while ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Design and plan sewage treatment facilities, including activated sludge, membrane bioreactors, and moving‑bed biofilm reactors.
• Develop internal components such as pump stations, screening chambers, grit chambers, clarifiers, aeration tanks, blowers, diffusers, and sludge handling units.
• Engineer piping systems: produce GA drawings, equipment layouts, isometrics, valve chamber diagrams, material take‑offs, and perform pipe, pump, tank, and wet‑well sizing.
• Create system curves, conduct pump calculations, and select pumps in coordination with vendors.
• Produce HVAC, ventilation, and fire‑protection designs for treatment plants and related facilities.
• Perform CFD and physical modelling of wet wells and pump intakes.
• Prepare technical specifications, data sheets, process diagrams, testing and commissioning procedures, and O&M manuals.
• Assess tender submissions, compile queries, and support cost estimating and bid preparation.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Extensive experience in mechanical design of water/wastewater treatment plants.
• Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects from concept to delivery.
• Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and best practices.
