Senior Planning Engineer – Rail Projects

About the role

The Planning Engineer will join AECOM’s project controls team to oversee contractor planning and schedule performance on a multi‑contract rail programme in the UAE. Reporting to the Senior Planning Engineer or Planning Manager, you will review programmes, maintain the integrated master schedule and provide clear reporting on status, critical path and risks.

Key responsibilities

• Review contractor baseline and monthly programmes against contract requirements, checking logic, milestones, WBS structure and identifying any unrealistic or manipulated schedules.
• Update and maintain the integrated master programme, incorporating design, authority approvals, third‑party works and client‑side activities while tracking cross‑contract interfaces and risks.
• Verify contractor‑reported progress through site visits, measurement records and procurement tracking, and analyse Earned Value Management data (SPI, CPI, earned and planned value).
• Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, dashboards, S‑curves and look‑ahead summaries for the client, and attend progress meetings to capture actions and follow‑up on recovery commitments.
• Identify schedule variances, investigate root causes, support extension‑of‑time claims and time impact analyses, and maintain independent schedule records for dispute support.
• Ensure approved scope changes are reflected in contractor programmes and the integrated master schedule.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years of planning and scheduling experience on major infrastructure projects, preferably rail, metro or light‑rail.
• Strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts, especially programme, progress and delay provisions.
• Experience working on multi‑contract programmes in the UAE or GCC.
