Specialist Physician – Emergency

About the role

The Specialist Physician – Emergency provides high‑quality, evidence‑based, patient‑centred care within the Emergency Division of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. Working under the supervision of a Consultant Physician, the role also involves mentoring junior medical staff and contributing to departmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver clinical care in line with best‑practice standards for emergency medicine.
• Support departmental policies, performance management, peer review and utilization processes.
• Assist Consultant staff to ensure continuous medical coverage across the division.
• Participate in divisional meetings, incident reporting and investigations.
• Supervise and train junior doctors, sharing responsibility for patient outcomes.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Review investigation results, adjust treatment plans, and coordinate with other specialties.
• Obtain informed consent and prepare patients for procedures.
• Accept referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, specialty clinics and walk‑in patients.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.

Required profile

• Medical degree with appropriate licensing to practice in the United Arab Emirates.
• Demonstrated clinical excellence and commitment to evidence‑based emergency care.
• Experience supervising and training junior medical staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to participate in performance management and quality‑improvement activities.
