Staff Software Engineer - Backend (AI Platform)

About the role

Careem is building an AI‑driven “WorkOS” platform that orchestrates autonomous agents across complex operational journeys. As a Staff Software Engineer – Backend you will be one of the first engineers shaping the core engine that deploys and manages these AI agents at massive scale.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable backend services and architectures to orchestrate complex AI workflows and real‑time data streaming.
• Establish engineering best practices for CI/CD, observability, security and system integrity as a founding member.
• Design and implement the “brain” of WorkOS that deploys, monitors and manages autonomous agents.
• Tackle distributed system challenges inherent to integrating AI agents with legacy platforms.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver production‑grade AI systems quickly.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a senior/backend engineer building high‑scale distributed systems.
• Strong systems‑thinking mindset with a passion for AI orchestration.
• Ability to work in a fast‑moving, startup‑like environment within a large organization.
• Track record of influencing technical foundations and engineering culture.
