Staff Software Engineer

About the role

As a Staff Software Engineer at talabat, you will operate across multiple layers of the organization – from your immediate team to the broader technology chapter and the entire tech org. You will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive complex, cross‑team initiatives that shape the future of the on‑demand food delivery platform.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the voice of your chapter, translating strategic direction into actionable guidance for engineering teams.
• Lead critical, high‑impact projects that span several squads, ensuring alignment with product and data partners.
• Partner with senior engineering, product, and data leaders to simplify complex systems, remove bottlenecks, and improve overall architecture.
• Own and facilitate the RFC review process to maintain a coherent app architecture across the organization.
• Contribute to the evolution of chapter vision and strategy, sponsoring key initiatives and mentorship programs.
• Enhance the developer experience by driving improvements in tooling, processes, and hiring practices.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in software engineering with a track record of delivering large‑scale, high‑quality systems.
• Strong communication and influencing skills to collaborate with senior stakeholders across engineering, product, and data domains.
• Product‑mindset with the ability to understand business and customer problems and translate them into technical solutions.
• Commitment to engineering best practices such as XP, Lean, and Continuous Delivery.
