Technical Operations Traineeship

About the role

This six‑month traineeship offers hands‑on experience in technical operations within a global news broadcast environment. You will rotate through live broadcast production, field reporting, digital video editing and social media operations, gaining exposure to end‑to‑end newsroom workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and set up all ancillary studio equipment daily, ensuring cameras, lighting and teleprompters are fully operational before live news broadcasts.
• Support live audio mixing by balancing multiple audio sources to maintain clear, professional sound quality under live‑production pressure.
• Operate both robotic camera control systems and manual jib cameras, delivering smooth and dynamic shots.
• Collaborate closely with studio directors, editors, camera operators and graphic artists to integrate technical elements into live television and multimedia content.
• Set up microphones and in‑ear monitors for anchors, correspondents and guests, ensuring seamless on‑air communication.
• Learn to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on studio equipment, resolving issues quickly to minimise downtime.
• Observe studio floor operations to understand coordination between talent, guests and control‑room cues.
• Provide technical production support to news editorial and operations teams.
