Nursing Supervisor – Nursing Operations

About the role

The Nursing Supervisor – Nursing Operations provides after‑hours leadership for the nursing department and supports hospital‑wide patient care. This middle‑management position ensures safe practice, coordinates patient flow, and acts as the primary on‑call liaison for nursing staff and external agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the nursing team during after‑hours shifts, maintaining high safety standards.
• Serve as the administrative on‑call liaison, representing nursing directions in the absence of department heads.
• Respond to all emergencies, including internal and external disasters, clinical and non‑clinical codes, and activate emergency preparedness plans.
• Activate on‑call specialty staff for emergency interventions and conduct active rounds on all nursing units to optimize patient care.
• Allocate nursing resources based on workload measures, patient acuity, and census.
• Coordinate bed placement, communicate availability, and manage temporary or permanent bed changes.
• Provide guidance, feedback, and corrective action on unsafe practices, and report significant issues to line management.
• Oversee the nurse float pool, ambulance disposition, and interdisciplinary communication with patients, families, and the health‑care team.

Required profile

• Comprehensive knowledge of hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment in interpreting policies.
• Strong collaboration skills with physicians, charge nurses, administrative staff, and ancillary support.
• Experience in emergency response and on‑call coordination.
• Effective communication and conflict‑resolution abilities with patients, families, and staff.
