Staff Nurse – Surgical Coordinator

About the role

The Staff Nurse Surgical Coordinator provides comprehensive, patient‑centred care within a surgical unit, ensuring safe and effective treatment from admission through discharge. The role blends clinical expertise with coordination responsibilities, supporting multidisciplinary teams and upholding the organisation’s values.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with organisational policies and nursing scope of practice.
• Coordinate individualized care pathways, including discharge planning and referral processes.
• Identify and act on significant changes in patient condition, reporting to supervisors or physicians as needed.
• Administer medications safely, adhering to Ministry of Health and HA‑AD narcotic policies, and report adverse drug reactions.
• Supervise and mentor practical nurses, midwives, junior staff and student nurses; act as preceptor for new staff.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering mutual respect and clear communication among health professionals.
• Participate in performance reviews, organisational change initiatives and emergency response procedures.
