Charge Nurse – PICU (Tower D4)

About the role

The Charge Nurse for Tower D4 in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) leads daily operations, ensuring smooth patient flow and high‑quality care. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, you will coordinate staffing, supervise support staff, and act as the clinical resource for the unit.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily patient care activities, ensuring adherence to ethical standards and organizational values.
• Coordinate schedules, assignments, and staffing levels to match patient acuity and skill mix.
• Monitor staff performance, provide coaching, and deliver constructive feedback.
• Manage utilization of human resources, consumables, and equipment efficiently.
• Administer medications and collaborate with pharmacy to meet unit medication needs.
• Lead emergency response efforts according to hospital policies.
• Facilitate communication between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Provide comprehensive handovers and attend patient care rounds.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in pediatric critical care.
• Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and manage high‑stress situations.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare systems, patient safety standards, and medication administration protocols.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and staff.

Required skills

• Competence in patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Proficiency in coordinating staff schedules and assignments.
• Ability to supervise and mentor support staff according to training level and patient acuity.
