Civil Laboratory Technician

About the role

Supports accurate and timely testing of construction materials and assists laboratory and site teams with sample handling, equipment operation, documentation, and quality control.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, identify, label, prepare and store soil, aggregate, concrete, asphalt and other material samples.
• Perform laboratory tests following approved methods, work instructions and applicable standards.
• Operate, inspect, clean and maintain testing equipment, reporting any calibration or equipment issues.
• Record observations, calculations, test data and results accurately in worksheets and systems.
• Assist with field sampling and testing activities as required by project schedules.
• Maintain a safe, organized and compliant laboratory environment.

Required profile

• Hands‑on knowledge of construction material testing (soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt).
• Ability to follow ASTM, BS, AASHTO or other approved testing methods and laboratory procedures.
• Accurate sample identification, preparation, measurement, calculations and technical record‑keeping.
• Competence in operating balances, ovens, sieves, compression testing machines and related equipment.
• Basic understanding of calibration, traceability, quality control and ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory practices.

Required skills

• Operation of balances, ovens, sieves and compression testing machines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office for structured test reporting.
• Familiarity with ASTM, BS, AASHTO standards and ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
